As we recite Halell, over the days of Chanukah, us gutter boys can pray to come out of the gutter.
Later on we say Azabaeihem. Their Idols are man made of Gold & silver they have a mouth, yet they don’t speak, they have eyes yet they don’t see, they have ears, & they don’t hear, they have a nose & they don’t smell, they have hands, but they don’t feel, they have feet, but they don’t go. Yisroel Btach Bashem.
We sometimes have people that are worshiped by like idols; they are dressed up in gold & silver, and seem to be the real choshuv Manhigim, yet as mentioned in our earlier blog, they don’t always know how to speak, they lack feelings, and won’t go out on their feet.
When that happens all that is left is Yisroel Btach Bashem.
The last Perek in Sotah, speaks about when the face of the generation is like a dog’s face, and the wisdom of our teachers will stink, whom do we have left to rely on, besides our father in heaven. The Tiferes Yisroel, explains that that is part of the curse, we have no one left to lead us, we cannot trust anyone any more, we have no where to seek guidance, all we have left is Yisroel Btach Bashem, we can only rely on our father in heaven.
After Tzadok & Baysus, for many generations, they would suspect the highest priest, of being a member of their Klan, & would make him swear that he wasn’t. Think a minute how intermingled they were with the authentic Jews, that one didn’t know until we made them swear. Yochanon Cohen Gadol was highest priest for eighty years, and wow was he more choshuv, than anyone we could dream of, he went in to the holy of holies eighty years straight, and came out alive, and then he changed camps. [Of course there are many explanations, of what that means I have heard one that he was left with a query on Emuna, from what he heard from one of the tzodikim. I have also heard that he was the father of Matisyahu Cohen Gadol, the grandfather of the Chashmonoyim, and they were mesaken his Chait.]
So too today the righteous are intermingled with the fakers, and to such an extent, it becomes hard to know which camp they are from, we don’t make them swear today, but Hakodosh Baruch Hu has rachmonus, and sometimes gives us hints, by slip ups. Although we are still not 100% sure when the slip ups are brought to their attention we watch their reaction, and could use that as a guide, we must also be aware that some may change camps even after eighty years.
What more can I say Yisroel Btach Bashem, we need leaders & guidance, please redeem us from this gutter.
